FAQ
Frequently asked questions about the med series
Who is the basic cream suitable for?
Our basic cream is a very moisturizing cream that is ideal for dry skin . You can use it on your face as well as on dry areas all over your body. It is also suitable as basic care for skin affected by neurodermatitis - in this case you should use the cream continuously, ideally twice a day.
What are the main ingredients of the base cream?
- Rich evening primrose oil (5%) from controlled organic cultivation
- moisturizing, vegetable glycerin
- Vitamin E (tocopherol)
The main ingredient in O/W (oil in water) creams is water. So-called emulsifiers are needed to combine the oils and the water. You can find these in our ingredients (e.g. glyceryl stearate, cetearyl alcohol ). Plant-based, antimicrobial ingredients (e.g. sodium levulinate ) are used as preservatives, but vitamin E also has a preservative effect. Our vitamin E is obtained from glycine soya extract , which is indicated separately.
Is the base cream comedogenic?
Comedo... what? I'm sure most readers here are asking themselves this. :) In fact, we are often asked this question, but we are referring to creams that promote the formation of blackheads (skin impurities). Some manufacturers claim that they are "non-comedogenic" and do not use greasy oils (especially mineral oils) that clog pores. This term is not protected and, in our opinion, is misleading because nobody knows exactly what it means.
The fact is: every skin is different and what causes blemishes in some may not be comedogenic in others. So don't let such claims unsettle you and rely on good recipes for your individual skin type!
Why is it even called "basic cream" or "basic care"?
The terms basic cream and basic care are terms used in the treatment of neurodermatitis. If you have neurodermatitis, regular and continuous basic care is recommended at all stages of treatment. Basic care means that you give the skin plenty of moisture in order to strengthen the damaged skin barrier and at least delay the occurrence of further flare-ups. Here you will find 5 tips for basic care for neurodermatitis .
What is the difference between med wound cream and baby wound cream?
First of all, the similarities: both use zinc oxide as a base.
Our new med wound cream is suitable for irritated, easily inflamed skin all over the body.
The baby wound cream is specially developed for the diaper area and contains marigold to soothe reddened baby bottoms. Marigold (Calendula) is a natural power ingredient that we love, but there are children with very sensitive skin who are allergic to this ingredient. Therefore, we recommend our wound cream from the med series for very sensitive skin.
Why basic care is so important in the treatment of neurodermatitis
The treatment of neurodermatitis is divided into three main pillars: the avoidance of trigger factors (e.g. dyes, fragrances, cold air), basic care and topical and systemic therapy with medication.
Basic care plays a major role in the treatment of neurodermatitis, as it is intended to prevent the onset of a worsening or acute flare-up by stabilizing the skin. As described above, dry, itchy skin is the main symptom of neurodermatitis, so a good basic cream must prevent the loss of fluid from the outer layers of skin as much as possible. If the skin barrier is intact, the skin is less susceptible to acute flare-ups.
Depending on the condition of the skin, the basic care product must be applied daily. Moisturizing compresses can increase the effect. Children should continue to be creamed even when there are no flare-ups in order to prevent acute deterioration as best as possible, as described above. Children with confirmed neurodermatitis should therefore not bathe for too long (approx. 5-10 minutes), add moisturizing bath substances to the water and apply a basic cream immediately after bathing.
During an acute attack, basic care is often no longer sufficient. Drug therapy follows a step-by-step plan and should be prescribed individually by the treating dermatologist.

What is the difference between the baby bath oil and the med care bath?
The baby bath oil has a delicate scent, while the med care bath is perfume-free and therefore suitable for very sensitive (problem) skin, such as those with neurodermatitis.
How often can I use the med care bath if I have neurodermatitis?
Boep founder and doctor Michaela has summarized valuable tips for you in a blog post. You can read it here .
Which ingredients should I avoid if I have very sensitive skin?
If you have very sensitive skin and/or suffer from neurodermatitis or rosacea, you should avoid trigger factors that cause flare-ups of the disease. Fragrances and lanolin, also known as wool wax, can be trigger factors as they have an increased allergy potential. Parabens, plasticizers and sulfates are also not tolerated. You can find all the details here!
Very sensitive skin needs special care
Developing natural care products for real problem skin has long been a concern of boep founder and doctor Michaela. While medical skin care series often rely on synthetic, conventional ingredients, natural cosmetics are often accused of using too many potentially allergenic substances.
In the med series, we combine these terms for the first time, using well-tolerated ingredients from nature and integrating them into very reduced, clean recipes.
Medical skin care meets certified natural cosmetics
When Michaela met Anni from AnnisBunteWelt (bioanalyst and influencer) at an organic trade fair in January 2020 and Anni told her about her son's neurodermatitis skin, the idea of developing the product together was quickly born.
As a bioanalyst and professional influencer, Anni has a high level of expertise in cosmetic ingredients and shares this with her community every day. She advised Michaela on the selection of ingredients, tested the samples with her and worked on them until the perfect recipe was found.
