As soon as cold season starts, coughs, sniffles, and stuffy noses usually aren't far behind for our kids. Before bringing out the heavy artillery from the pharmacy, simple home remedies can sometimes help: with our Thyme Balm, you can easily prepare a cold compress.
In this article, you'll learn which home remedies I recommend as effective for a cold and how to make a cold compress yourself.
Colds in children: what helps?
Herbs, medicinal plants, and essential oils can have mucus-dissolving, anti-inflammatory, and soothing effects on, for example, coughing. This makes them a natural alternative to conventional cold remedies and thus, if the essential oils are well tolerated, ideal for children.
Our Thyme Balm contains a special combination of thyme, sage, eucalyptus, and vitamin E, as well as high-quality, nourishing oils such as almond oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter. This composition provides a pleasant, warming skin sensation and ensures a delightful fragrance experience.
The best thing about our Thyme Balm is that you can use it in many versatile ways: either as a direct application on the chest, back, and soles of the feet, for inhalation as aromatherapy, as a soothing cold bath, or as a cold compress before bed for a stuffy nose or cough – you can find step-by-step instructions here!
How do I make a cold compress?
You will need: 1 tsp Thyme Balm, 0.5 liters boiling water, a dishtowel or thin towel.
- Put the teaspoon of Thyme Balm into a pot and pour half a liter of boiling water over it.
- Place a dishtowel or thin towel into the water so that it absorbs the mixture. Once the towel is warm, but no longer hot, you can wring it out well.
- Place the warm towel on your child's chest and cover it with a dry towel or blanket. It should remain there for about half an hour.
Essential oils can cause allergies and should therefore only be used with experience and as aromatherapy care for children older than 3 years. Even then, we recommend testing skin tolerance on a small area and always applying our Thyme Balm extremely sparingly.
