As soon as the days get shorter again, the first kindergarten or school viruses often start ringing in at home. When I catch one, I love to lie in a warm bath with a cold bath when I have a cold.
In this article, you will learn which herbs and oils are known to be beneficial for a cold bath (also for children), how they work and how you can easily prepare a soothing bath with our thyme balm for you or your child.
Which herbs and essential oils for a cold bath?
Herbs and essential oils that are known to have expectorant, anti-inflammatory and calming effects are particularly suitable for a cold bath. The most popular include:
Thyme : As a medicinal plant, thyme is a real all-rounder for cold symptoms. It can have both an expectorant and anti-inflammatory effect and can help with coughing.
Sage : Sage is also known for its calming effect on the respiratory tract. It can help reduce inflammation and soothe mucous membranes.
Eucalyptus : Eucalyptus oil can be particularly effective for a stuffy nose. It can promote blood circulation in the mucous membranes and thus make nasal breathing easier again.
Our balm contains a special combination of thyme, sage, eucalyptus and vitamin E as well as high-quality, nourishing oils such as almond oil, shea butter and cocoa butter. The composition provides aromatic care for a warming skin feeling and stimulates blood circulation.
Note: You should avoid using essential oils on babies and small children as they can cause allergic reactions.
Cold bath for children with thyme balm – how to
- Prepare the bath water : Fill the bathtub with pleasantly warm, not too hot water (approx. 37 °C).
- Add thyme balm : Depending on the desired intensity, add 2-4 teaspoons of thyme balm to the bath water and stir briefly to ensure that the balm is well distributed. The essential oils will then be gradually released by the heat.
- Bath time : Let your child relax in the bath for about 10 to 15 minutes. The combination of warmth and thyme balm can help open the airways and soothe the cough.
- After the bath : After the cold bath, your child should be wrapped up warm and go straight to bed or the sofa to stay warm. A quiet time, a favorite book and lots of cuddling support the relaxing and beneficial effect of the cold bath - and thus ensure (hopefully) more relaxed nights.
Of course, your child should not bathe if they have a bad cold with fever or are feeling unwell. But I would like to share with you my tips that help me and my family during the cold season.
Get well soon! 🌿
