We all love summer - but especially for patients with neurodermatitis, the condition of their skin can deteriorate during this time of year. Heat, increased pollen levels and sweat can increase the symptoms of neurodermatitis - the itching in particular often becomes a burden. If you also suffer from this, we have put together a few tips for you here to help you get through the summer months well and, above all, enjoy them:
1. Good skin care
Even in summer, you should maintain your skincare routine consistently and daily. Use mild and moisturizing creams, such as our basic cream .
2. The right sunscreen
Use a sunscreen without perfume and, if you have had good experiences with it, with a mineral filter (eg zinc oxide). You can find more information on this topic here .
3. Lukewarm showers
These are particularly gentle on your sensitive skin. Avoid hot showers, which cause additional irritation to your skin. We also recommend a short, cooling bath, e.g. with our med care bath . The moisturizing film can be very pleasant for your skin.
4. Swimming lake instead of swimming pool
Do you need to cool down? Then spend the day at a lake rather than in a swimming pool. The chlorine used there can irritate your skin even more. If you do go to a swimming pool, it's best to shower with clean water after swimming.
5. Light and loose clothing
Breathable clothing made from natural materials such as cotton or silk is suitable here. These materials are gentle on the skin and have a cooling effect.
6. Cool down during flare-ups!
Are you suffering from an acute flare-up and eczema in the summer? Cold compresses or wet wraps can provide relief and gently soothe the skin.
7. Don’t forget to drink!
Hydration is the most important thing for neurodermatitis. Therefore, especially in summer, always drink enough water to keep your circulation sufficiently hydrated. This supports the weakened skin barrier. We recommend a daily fluid requirement of 2-3 liters.
8. Holiday by the sea? :)
Swimming in salt water can improve the condition of the skin in cases of neurodermatitis - the humid climate and sea air also often provide relief from symptoms. Give it a try if it's possible for you!
