Phew - looking at the sunscreen shelves can easily feel overwhelming. What's the right product? How do I choose between sunscreen cream and sunscreen lotion? After reading this article, you'll have a clear understanding and be a true sun pro .
Is sunscreen lotion the same as sunscreen cream?
Right off the bat - no, sunscreen lotion and sunscreen cream are not the same product, because they differ in one important aspect: their fat content! While a sunscreen cream has a higher fat content, a sunscreen lotion has a lower fat content but a high water content. Thus, sunscreen lotion has a lighter consistency than sunscreen cream. The latter, due to its rich fats, has a somewhat firmer and creamier consistency.
When do I use sunscreen lotion?
Since sunscreen lotion contains more water than fat, it is generally suitable for all skin types. Our sunscreen lotion absorbs quickly due to its high moisture content and spreads wonderfully on the skin and the entire body. Especially for days at daycare or at the playground, it is therefore the ideal product. The only "disadvantage" of a sunscreen lotion: due to the high water content, sunscreen lotion products often do not have a particularly high water resistance. For a long beach day or a day at the pool, we therefore recommend using a sunscreen cream or even our sun balm.
What can sunscreen cream do?
A sunscreen cream reliably protects you from UV radiation and is characterized by a richer consistency compared to a sunscreen lotion. Therefore, a sunscreen cream is ideally suited for the face. If you have particularly sensitive skin, we also recommend using a sunscreen cream without fragrances and with a high sun protection factor.
The right sun protection factor is crucial!
No matter which sunscreen you ultimately choose, you should always opt for a product with a high sun protection factor (>25). Did you know that our sunscreens offer immediate protection directly after application? So you are protected right from the start - just don't forget to reapply.
What sunscreen does my baby need?
Since babies and toddlers still have particularly sensitive skin and their skin's protective system is not yet fully developed, you should not expose your little ones to direct sunlight. Rather, stay in a shady spot and also apply enough cream - even on cloudy days, UV rays can affect the skin and potentially cause damage. For babies, we recommend our Sunscreen Sensitive SPF50 or our med Sun Balm SPF 50 for face, hands and feet.
