For little sniffles: Natural cold bath for children

As soon as the days get shorter again, the first daycare or school viruses often ring at our home. When it then catches me too, I love to lie in a warm bathtub with a cold bath when I have a cold.

In this article, you will learn which herbs and oils are known to be beneficial for a cold bath (also for children), how they work, and how you can easily prepare a soothing bath with our Thyme Balm for yourself or your child.

Which herbs and essential oils for a cold bath?

For a cold bath, herbs and essential oils that are known for their mucus-dissolving, anti-inflammatory, and calming effects are particularly suitable. The most popular include:

Thyme: Thyme is a true all-rounder as a medicinal plant for cold symptoms. It can have both a mucus-dissolving and anti-inflammatory effect and support coughing up phlegm.

Sage: Sage is also known for its soothing effect on the respiratory tract. It can help to relieve inflammation and soothe the mucous membranes.

Eucalyptus: Eucalyptus oil can be particularly effective for a blocked nose. It can promote blood circulation in the mucous membranes and thus facilitate nasal breathing again.

Our balm contains a special combination of thyme, sage, eucalyptus and vitamin E, as well as high-quality, nourishing oils such as almond oil, shea butter and cocoa butter. The composition provides a warming skin sensation as an aroma care and stimulates blood circulation.

Note: For infants and young children, you should avoid using essential oils, as these can cause allergic reactions.

Cold bath for children with thyme balm – how to

  1. Prepare bath water: Fill the bathtub with pleasantly warm, not too hot water (approx. 37 °C).
  1. Add thyme balm: Add 2-4 teaspoons of thyme balm to the bath water, depending on the desired intensity, and stir briefly so that the balm is well distributed. The essential oils are then gradually released by the warmth.
  1. Bath time: Let your child relax in the bath for about 10 to 15 minutes. The combination of warmth and thyme balm can help to open the airways and soothe the cough reflex.
  1. After the bath: After the cold bath, your child should be warmly wrapped and go straight to bed or the sofa to stay warm. A quiet time, a favorite book, and lots of cuddle time support the relaxing and soothing effect of the cold bath – and thus ensure (hopefully) more relaxed nights.

Of course, your child should not bathe with a severe cold with fever or discomfort. But I am happy to share my tips with you that help me and my family during the cold season.
