Older children, new needs – this also applies to the daily skin and hair care routine. Important questions keep arising: How often should I wash my child's hair, which shampoo is suitable for my child, and what can I do if my child doesn't want to wash their hair? In this blog article, we have summarized some tips on hair care for children.
Why is washing hair so important?
Hair, especially in kids, collects a lot of dust and dirt in everyday life. Not too frequent, but regular hair washing ensures good scalp hygiene and a healthy scalp flora. At the same time, kids gradually learn a healthy level of personal hygiene that they can take over independently over time.
How often should I wash my child's hair?
Since children's hair usually doesn't get greasy as quickly, 1-2 hair washes per week are usually sufficient. Of course, other factors also play a crucial role, for example, whether your child plays a lot of sports or has played in the dirt. Then their hair can be washed more often, or perhaps even simply rinsed with water.
Baby shampoo, kids' shampoo, or regular shampoo – which shampoo is right for my child?
Practical, well-tolerated, and mild – these are the things you should look for when choosing a shampoo.
Kids' shampoos, specially formulated for the needs of children, generally meet exactly these points. They are significantly milder than adult shampoos because a child's scalp is more sensitive than an adult's. Also, make sure that the shampoo has been dermatologically tested. You can usually find this designation directly on the front of the product.
To avoid tears during washing, it's important to choose a shampoo that ideally doesn't sting the eyes. Is your child still having difficulty with washing? Opt for combination products for skin and hair – that way, everything gets done in one go.
Did you know that our Kids Shampoo meets all these requirements? Shower and bath fun included! The shampoo cleanses gently and has a subtle, fresh scent – naturally without synthetic fragrances.
What to do if my child doesn't want to wash their hair?
We all know the challenge when it comes to washing our kids' hair, and sometimes it can be very stressful for everyone involved. Perhaps some of the tips from our team will help you make the care ritual pleasant and varied in the future:
- Protect eyes and avoid uncomfortable stinging: A washcloth, for example, can help prevent shampoo from running into the eyes when rinsing. If your kids are up for a little more adventure – how about swimming goggles?!
- Bathtub instead of shower: Use the relaxed atmosphere during bathing – children can sit comfortably and lean their heads back when rinsing. With a bubble bath or bath water colors, you usually can't get the kids out of the water at all ;)
- Let your child do it themselves: Children love to complete small tasks independently. So why not hair washing? Depending on their age, of course, with supervision at first, so that their hair is truly clean in the end. For smaller children, you can simply let them play with the foam a bit during the process; distraction sometimes works wonders!
- No more annoying tangles: Additionally use our Kids Conditioner and/or our Kids Detangling Spray for better combability of the hair after washing, without any pulling.
